Where did the summer go?

Man, seems like it was just last week that the kids got out of school and now here it is, time to start again! At least my daughter gets to come by every morning after dropping them off and have a cup of coffee with me.  We've started walking around the block of apartments here at the Senior Community. It's two tenths of a mile, but right now one time around is all I can handle! LOL   I'm just happy to do that.
The Bell's Palsy is all gone now, I can even shut my right eye completely and the eye dr. said my vision wasn't as bad this last check up so I can order glasses now.
It the darn nerve pain would just go away now, I would be doing very well. It's still concentrated in my ear and right cheek, down to my chin.  But it keeps improving, slowly, but surely.  I've been told that some of it may be permanent as far as my ear because of how many blisters I had down inside and on the ear drum it's self.  I do notice a small amount of hearing loss. May need to get that checked someday.
Finally getting back to sewing, but sadly not much embroidery.  I have a "secret sister" at church and I decided to make her a lap quilt.  It's really interesting and very time consuming.  I can't stay at it as long at a time as I should.   It's the mock chenille design. You take  pretty back fabric and sandwich it with 2-3 layers of flannel or thin fleece.  Then you sew it on the flannel side in stripes, about 1/2 inch apart. Then you take some sharp thin scissors and cut the flannel between the seams and wash it. It's kind of like a rag quilt. When it fuzzes and fluffs up, it really looks like chenille.  I hope mine works.  I thought I remembered the instructions and didn't read them before I got started, then when it was half done, I read them for some reason and realized I had sewn on the grain and it was supposed to be on the bias!!!  :(   I'm pretty sure it will fluff, but maybe not as well as it would have on the bias.
I'm collecting some embroidery patterns, I've done a few with flowers drawn on some white muslin that I have an idea to make a flower quilt in a patch work with a color square in between them.
Well, time to get off here and get busy.  I'm going to a first year birthday party for one of my great-grand-daughters this weekend. Haven't seen her since I moved up here.  Can't wait to see everyone.
Have a happy Labor Day weekend, it's not too far away.

Getting old bites the big one!!!

These past few months have been the pits!  First my COPD flared up and had me almost down and out. Now I've had Shingles and Bell's Palsy!  Been fighting this for a month. The shingles were in my mouth, all over my scalp on the right side and down inside my ear. Had blisters on my ear drum!!  If you've ever had an earache, multiply that about 10 times. The blisters are all gone now, but the nerve pain is still there. And the Bell's Palsy has the right side of my face looking like I've had a stoke; has also affected my eyesight and my sense of balance, almost fallen several time.  The ONLY good side to all of this is that I lost almost 20 lbs. and haven't needed any of my breathing medications. Can't even sleep with my C-pap because of the shingles. Now if I could just get rid of the nerve pain, it would be great.  Never had anything hurt so much, not even childbirth!

I went to a Handi-Quilt demonstration last month right before all this hit, at Shawn's Sewing Center in Springfield, Mo and I fell in love with the Sweet Sixteen sit down quilter!!  I'm going to get one somehow.  I could get my quilts finished up in a hurry.  I have to get a small one done before the end of next month, my secret-sister at church has a birthday coming up. Hope my eye holds up long enough to do it. Maybe by the next time I post, I'll have some quilts to show.  I have several blocks embroidered for a flower themed quilt, but don't have pictures taken of them yet. Sorry.  Hope your having a great summer!!

Wool Applique

Well, I did get all of the wool felted and have made several small pieces.  We're having a handcraft/swap meet here this month and I'm going to be a vendor.  Hopefully sell some of the jewelry I had left over from Silver Dollar City and some of my needle work. Have finished a couple more of the smaller quilts and got some given out, but still have a ton to go.  I really like doing the applique and embroidery pieces just because they are smaller and easier to get finished.
Weather is finally like spring time here and we're even looking at some 80 degree days!! Yaaaa!   The kids are going to make me a flower garden by my back patio this afternoon so going to have to cut this short. They just called to say they are on their way, but I did want to get a couple of my pictures posted of wool work.

Have a  wonderful weekend and a HAPPY MOTHER'S day!  I sure miss my momma, she has been gone for 15 years.

I swear, I must be the worst procrastinator alive!!  I keep telling myself I'm going to keep current with my blog and yet I'll go for a couple of months before I even think of it!!
I'm pretty much settled in at my apartment, and it's getting warm now.  Cleo is wanting outside all the time. Still in and out, in and out, just like she did at home.  Spoiled brat! One thing about it though, she doesn't venture very far; she is still very leery of the new outside.  I don't think she has made it more than 15 ft past the patio.
I absolutely love being up here near my grandkids!  Now instead of seeing them a few times a year, it's a few times a week!  I get to sit with them occasionally and we go to church together 3 times a week too. I thoroughly enjoy my new church.  Wonderful pastor and I have made so many new friends and a great ladies group that gets together once a month to have lunch and bible study.
Also have a brand new great-grandbaby too.  My oldest granddaughter just had her second boy. Mommy and Daddy are thrilled. Maximillian (Max) Sherman weighed 9 lbs and 2 oz. and was 21 inches long!!  No wonder mommy looked like she was having twins.  She is a tiny little thing anyway, so glad she didn't have any problems.  Haven't gotten to see him yet, will be so very glad when I can get a car.  I keep hoping they will come up here to see me, but everybody is busy in their own lives I guess.
The sewing is coming along, slow but sure.  I've gotten a little sidetracked off the quilts though.  Money is still pretty tight and I need to buy more backing and batting.  Have found a great little fabric/quilt store and glory be, it's right across the highway from me. I can almost see it from my back porch.  Very nice lady owns it and she has some beautiful fabrics and her prices are very reasonable.  Weather gets warm enough, I may even try walking over there with my rolling walker.
I've also taken up embroidery on fabric and add some beads once in a while too,a friend gave me a ton of floss a few years ago and I'm making good use of it finally.  I'm doing wool applique too, found a ton of 100% wool up here at the Free Store.  Need to get a bunch more "de-contructed" and felted in the washer and dryer.   Keeping busy!  I've also made a bunch of purses this week too.  They have a large craft fair up here in the spring and since I can't go to Silver Dollar City anymore, I will enjoy doing the local fairs.
Didn't mean to write so much,  but that's what happens when you go so long without blogging.   Have a wonderful Easter and enjoy being with family.  :)

Christmas Quilting

My, do I ever have a lot to catch up on!  I finally sold my place, and got the apartment in Lebanon that I wanted.  I'm moved in but not totally unpacked yet. My craft/sewing/quilting room is a disaster!  I have my work table at least set up so I can quilt and my computer on a temporary table, but that's about all.  I did not get the quilts I was making for Christmas done; the ones for the littlest (great) grandkids are, but that's about all. I'm working on this one right now, I really did want it done, because not only was it her Christmas present, but her birthday was the 28th too!  I'm about half way done with the stitch in the ditch quilting, didn't think with the Chevron pattern it would look right with anything swirly.  So hopefully she will get it this week. Hope you all had a very Merry CHRISTmas and best of luck with the New Year.
So many people have been devastated with all the storms and weird weather we have had this past couple of months and especially this past week. We here in Missouri had awful flooding, there have been tornadoes, blizzards, and flooding all over the midwest and southern states.  My prayers go out to all of those who were in the storms and most of all those who lost loved ones.

Quilting Along!! NOT.

Well, I have been quilting, just not as much I would like to have been.  Four years ago I tore the meniscus cartilage in my right knee and had to have surgery on it.  Was the beginning of my being on disability. I guess since I would be 65 in less than a year they decided it was ok cause it was approved in less than 2 months and I didn't even know they had set me up for it. Anyway, to make a long story short, (longer) a few months ago, my left knee started hurting and I figured it was just arthritis. The orthopedic doctor told me I would probably have trouble with it after the right knee debacle. So I didn't pay much attention to it but it finally was hurting so much I realized it felt quite a bit like the right one did a few years ago. Went to the doctor, and according to the powers that be that regulate the insurance, had to have an x-ray even though it won't show soft tissue damage.  Then haggle with same to get approval for the MRI that was needed to show the cartilage. While waiting on all this to happen, I'm trying to get into the bathroom one day and the wheel of my little go-cart walker I got this past summer got hung in one of the furnace vents and the cart and I fought for who was going to be on top when we hit the floor.  The cart won.  Landed on my left hip, elbow, and of course, knee! Bruises, scrapes, and more pain.  Then I had to have x-rays on the hip because I couldn't hardly walk! Thank the Lord nothing was broken. Oh my heavens, what else was going to happen to me?  I shouldn't have asked that question because I was hobbling thru my bedroom the next day and a wasp dive bombed me!!!  No idea how he got in, but when I swerved to miss him, my left knee twisted to the left and I felt the rest of the cartilage tear.  OH MY WORD!!!! PAIN!  Well then there was no question of "if" it was torn or not. Called the dr. and found out we had finally, after almost 3 weeks, gotten approval for the MRI.   The orthopedic doctor's office in Springfield called and I couldn't get an appt. until Nov. 3rd.  This was another 2 weeks!!  Meanwhile, I'm hobbling around my house, trying to do what I can which isn't much, may have to get some one to come in and do some better house cleaning for me.  Cause I sure can't do much from this walker.  I have been able to get some sewing done, but just can't sit for too long, can't stand much either. I'm just a broken down old wreck.  Just call me Hesperus!!  LOL.  I want to be in a Festival this month with my daughter, don't know if that is going to happen or not, missed the one in October so the "halloweenie" stuff I made with have to wait for next year, unless maybe I can do it as "on sale" !! and knock a few buck off. Here are a few photo's.  The fushia colored one is the first full size quilt I have tried on my regular home machine, I stippled quite a bit and did some echo stitching around some of the horses. This granddaughter at 9 is of course crazy about horses, the second one is Stitch in the Ditch. Then a couple of table toppers and the pincushions I work on while watching tv at night. Hope you had a wonderful weekend, yesterday ours was cold and rainy with the furnace on a little, today is gorgeous fall weather, sunshine and warm enough to have the windows open. God Bless!!

Here are a couple of things I have been working on.  A knit skirt I made out of a blouse that didn't fit well any longer, some table toppers and a quilt or two.
